Here are some common questions you may ask yourself, followed with a biblical answer:
1) Am I a sinner?
Yes. Romans 3:10 -11says, "There is none righteous, no, not one. There is none
that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God."
Romans 3:23, says, "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
2) How did I become a sinner?
Romans 5:12 says,"Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death
by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned."
This is the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden found in Genesis Chapter 2-3.
God told them they could eat of any tree but the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
They disobeyed God and ate from that tree. A sin was committed. That sin has been
passed down to you and me. The price for sin, is death. That's why people die. This
price is not only a physical death but also a spiritual death in Hell.
3) Will my good works get me to heaven?
According to the bible, the answer is NO.
In fact, Isaiah 64:6, says, "all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags."
Titus 3: 5, says, "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to
his mercy he saved us"
Ephesians 2:8-9, says, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of
yourselves:it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast"
After all, if your good works would take you to heaven, then why did Jesus die on the cross?
4) Why did Jesus die on the cross?
Jesus knew that our good works would not get us to heaven and in order to get to
heaven we (as sinners) would have to be reconciled back to God. Therefore, Jesus
died on the cross to reconcile, or bring us back into fellowship, with God. He died so
that we may live.
5) Who can go to heaven?
2 Peter 3:9, says, that God "is not willing that any should perish, but that all should
come to repentance."
Hebrews 2:9, says, 'That he (Jesus) by the grace of God should taste death for every
man."
6) What must I do to be saved?
Acts 16:31,says, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved."
John 3:16, says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son,
that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Romans 10:9-10, says, "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and
shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be
saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation." Vs. 13, says, For whosoever shall call upon the
name of the Lord shall be saved."
